The football gods haven’t been kind to the Minnesota Vikings in recent weeks.
J.J. McCarthy now joins a long list of Vikings offensive and defensive starters who have already been sidelined through injury this season.
Kevin O’Connell delivered the devastating blow in his routine Monday press conference, stating that “McCarthy came in very, very sore today with the ankle sprain.”
KOC anticipates that the ankle injury shouldn’t land McCarthy on short-term IR, and he will be assessed day-by-day throughout the week.
Adam Schefter has since reported on X that “Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy is expected to be sidelined two-to-four weeks with a high ankle sprain.”
It’s fair to say McCarthy has had a turbulent start to his NFL career, from the miracle in Chicago to becoming a first-time father last week.
The experienced Carson Wentz will be the next man up to face Jake Browning and the Cincinnati Bengals this coming Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. Justifying the need to bring in the veteran presence in the offseason.
One thing is for sure: the offensive line will need to adjust and rebuild to give the Vikings a fighting chance on Sunday. If not, Wentz should have the knowledge to get the ball out of his hands as soon as possible.
